A wine country tour through one of Sonoma’s newest appellations
is also one of the most scenic drives on the continent. As its
name suggests, the Sonoma Coast appellation encompasses most of
Sonoma County’s dramatic, rugged coastline and also ventures
inland to envelope most of the south western Sonoma County up
into the Santa Rosa area.
One of Sonoma Wine County’s most recently
recognized viticultural areas; Sonoma Coast is quickly becoming
the hot new property for wine grape cultivation. Its ability to
grow first-rate wine grapes lies in the perfect blend of temperature
and elevation. Though Sonoma Coast is cooler and gets more rain
than the interior of Sonoma County, by planting high up on the
ridgelines, California wine grape growers can escape the morning

Sonoma wine country from June to August. The
trade off is just enough to wrench out adequate sugar during hang
time to produce some of the finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in
the California Wine Country. No regularly scheduled California
