Sonoma Mountain

On the flanks of the ancient volcano Mt Sonoma, between the elevations of about 300 and 1,000 feet lies the sub-appellation of Sonoma Mountain. Just out of reach of the 'marine layer' -morning coastal fog that tends to blanket the rest of Sonoma county in summer months, the Sonoma Mountain appellation is a haven for long ripening Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. The often steep and jumbled Sonoma Mountain terrain offers every possible combination of slope exposure and the well draining, gravely soils reward dry-farming with intense, complex fruit flavors and velvety finishes. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir also find slopes to their particular liking in Sonoma Mountain, as well as Sauvignon Blanc and even some later ripening Semillon.
